Safe Arrival Program

Safe Arrival Phone No. is (250) 478-1459.
Please call this number if your child will be late or absent.

It has been requested by the Vancouver Island Health Authority that all schools track the reason for absences especially if they are health related.  So, when you call, please provide a brief description/reason why your child(ren) will be away.  If it is health related, please state whether they have a cough, cold, flu or fever.

Participation is not mandatory however it is highly recommended.  At the beginning of each school year you will receive a Safe Arrival Program Notice explaining this program in greater detail and a Safe Arrival Form for your to complete and return to the school by the deadline (generally the end of September).  If we do not receive a form from you by the deadline we will record your child as a non-participant.

This program ensures that all children have arrived safely in their classroom each morning by reviewing the attendance sheets provided by the teachers and comparing the absentees with notification received by parents.  So please be sure to call the school if your child will not be at school or if they will be late for any reason:

  • From 2:30 pm til 8:45 am please phone and leave a message on the Safe Arrival phone at 250-478-1459.  All information received from the calls to Safe Arrival will be passed on to the office and made available to teachers.
  • During school hours (after 8:45 am and before 2:30 pm) please call the school directly at 250-478-3431 and leave a message with the secretary.

If your child(ren) are participants in this program and you do not phone in,  you will be called.  The volunteer will call ALL the numbers provided by you including the emergency contacts.  A message will be left at every opportunity.  If unsuccessful, necessary action may be taken by the school.  To avoid being called unnecessarily, you need to call EVERY DAY your child(ren) is/are away or inform us in advance if you know that your child(ren) will be away for an extended period of time.

If your child(ren) have transferred to this school during the school year, you can pick up a form at the office or print a form from the links above.  Once complete please return it to the office and we will enroll your child(ren) into the program.

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact the office.
